Neal HarrellSpecial  appreciation goes out to Neal Harrell of Brooks Marine Group, for being our Emcee/Moderator again this year.

The AYCA also noted the valuable assistance of Deb Pytko, of B&B Yacht Charters, with a Gift Card from Helly Hansen, which she purchased a nautical raincoat for the upcoming change of seasons.

A synopsis of the 3-Hour Seminar, which seemed to pass by very quickly, is as follows:

Patrick SciaccaMARKETING: Patrick Sciacca, Yachting Magazine's Editor-in-Chief discussed “Social Media on Steroids."

Yachting has found that usage among those 65 or older has tripled since 2010. 35% of those 65 and older report using Social Media, compared to 2% in 2005. The magazine has found rising activity through social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and eNews.

People are always looking to stay connected to their passion. Social media allows us to do this 24 hours a day. It maintains brand awareness constantly.

INDUSTRY: Ionna Hernandez of International Registries, Inc. (IRI) / The Marshall Islands Registry presented their new “Yachts Engaged in Trade Initiative”.

Introducing the Commercial Bubble! The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) launched the new Yacht Engaged in Trade (YET) initiative during the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show. It is exciting news for our charter yachts doing business in the MED for yacht owners, yacht captains and ultimately benefitting our charter clients.

Ionna offered a great overview of this option to charter without the owners’ dilemma of paying the Value Added Tax (VAT) for personal use of their yacht; or stay private while in the Mediterranean and miss out on the opportunity to charter.

Now with the RMI offering the YET option, owners can charter their yacht to third parties and also use them privately without the necessity to produce a charter contract and pay VAT on their personal use of the yacht! Click here for a comprehensive instructional outline.

DESTINATION: Panel Discussion lead by Paul Madden of Paul Madden Associates on “Chartering in Cuba–The Real Information”.

Cuba-Yacht.com holds a specific OFAC License for carrying passengers to, and within, Cuba and act as a "Vessel Operator" on yacht charters (and owner trips) to Cuba. Paul and the team of experts he assembled (Captain Brent Holleman/CEDAR ISLAND, Eric Nittman/WHITEHAWK, and Karen Kelly-Shea/Nicholson Yachts) really gave in-depth and behind the scenes information to the charter brokers, managers, and other Captains attending the Seminar. He provided us very useful handouts with contact information and explained the step-by-step process that it takes to charter in Cuba. He had a video team there that was posting his presentation to his Twitter and Facebook followers which had immediate results!

As the rules for Cuba were changing at the time of the Seminar, Paul has provided us with an update: “Feds Spell Out Cuba Visa Rules”. Marinas in Cuba
